Uttarakhand CM orders deployment of SDRF perosnnel on Char Dham Yatra route

Press Trust of India - Mar 25, 2014 at 11:26pm IST In a bid to put a fool-proof security system into place before the Char Dham yatra begins in May, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has ordered substantial deployment of SDRF personnel in danger zones prone to natural disasters en route to the famous Himalayan shrines located in the state. Reviewing preparations for the yatra scheduled to begin in the first week of May, the Chief Minister reminded officials of the April 30 deadline set for completion of road repair work along the pilgrimage route and asked them to deploy in full strength the newly constituted State Disaster Response Force personnel in the danger zones, official sources said in Dehradun on Tuesday. New route of Kedarnath will save from Natural Disaster or tragedy

In last year tragedy the track route from Rambada to Garurchatti, Kedarnath has lost. Devotees and Visitors were facing inconvenience since the disaster. To handle such Emergency next time, government of Uttarakhand has planned a new alternate track route to Kedarnath which will help in reducing the traffic in single route. To connect Kedarnath, the easy and new alternative route will constructed from Triyuginarayan and Chaumasi. The Path will be from the other side of Mandakni River. This work is given to Reserve Forest and Century Area. Century Area, Char Dham Administration and Reserve Forest are patrolling Villages so that the new route may be build as soon as possible. "Efforts are underway on a war footing to restore the damaged roads and bridges and I am confident that all infrastructure will be in place before the Char Dham pilgrimage begins in May," Rawat told reporters in Dehradun. Work begins to restore Char Dham Yatra roads by April 20, 2014

DS Kunwar,TNN | Mar 14, 2014, 06.01 AM IST DEHRADUN: Congress-led Harish Rawat government on Thursday pressed into service a team of more than 300 Border Road Organization personnel to repair and renovate about 620-km-long Char Dham yatra motorable routes before it begins on May 2. These yatra routes, including Rudraprayag-Kedarnath, Karanprayag-Badrinath and Uttarkashi-Gangotri and Yamnotri, were extensively damaged in the mid-June flash floods. The BRO personnel were deployed at different points on these routes hours after the state government received Rs 210 crore allocated for the purpose. "We have set a deadline for April 20 to complete these roads before the yatra begins," said chief secretary Subhash Kumar. Uttarakhand Govt to track pilgrims with biometric cards for Chardham Yatra 2014

Kautilya Singh,TNN | Mar 10, 2014, 11.00 PM IST DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand government has decided to keep track of devotees visiting the state for the Char Dham yatra by issuing biometric cards and registering the mobile numbers of pilgrims to provide timely weather forecast. "A total of 25 points have been identified, most of them in the Garhwal region, where biometric cards would be made and issued to pilgrims," said tourism secretary Umakant Panwar on Monday. "The pilgrims will have to swipe their biometric card en route, which will also help keep a track of their location," he said. "With the help of MeT department and telecom department, we will provide weather updates to pilgrims on their mobiles so that they can plan their yatra," he added. Trekking track to Kedarnath to be ready before yatra: Uttarakhand CM

DS Kunwar,TNN | Feb 10, 2014, 03.14 PM IST UTTARAKHAND: CM Harish Rawat on Sunday announced that his government has prepared a blueprint to begin reconstruction of the 10-km-long pedestrian tracks from Rambara to Gaurikund and 8km track from Rambara to Kedarnath. The tracks will be ready for the Char Dham yatra begins. These two pedestrian tracks leading to Kedarnath were completely washed away in the flash floods on the night of 16 June and 17 June. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Rawat said the blueprint on the pedestrian tracks' reconstruction has been prepared after detailed consultation with experts in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and National Disaster Management Response Force (NDRF). Work will begin as soon as the weather improves, he added.
